Ventura Duck Ponds / Wetlands

Ventura Duck Ponds / Wetlands

We will bird this area on foot. It will be approximately a 3 mile walk and we must remain as a group. This is a private area and a wonderful opportunity has been offered to us to bird the Duck Ponds/Wetlands. Thanks to Peggy Kearns and Jeff Hanson for making the necessary arrangements.

Target Birds

Waterfowl, Virginia Rail, Merlin, Peregrine Falcon, American Bittern, White-faced Ibis, Yellow-headed Blackbirds, Vermilion Flycatcher, etc.

Directions

We will car pool ($8.00 gas money to drivers) from the Andree Clark Bird Refuge parking area at 7:00 am

If you want to meet us at the Duck Ponds/Wetlands at 8am.

  • Directions:
  • Take Hwy 101 to the Rice Ave off ramp.
  • BUT due to freeway construction, the Rice Avenue off ramp may still be closed.
  • In that case take the Rose Ave off ramp.
  • Head toward the ocean on Rose Ave.
  • At the second stop light (Gonzales Rd) turn left.
  • Proceed on Gonzales till it dead ends at Rice Rd.
  • Turn right on Rice Rd
  • Head towards the ocean.
  • Take the Hueneme Rd turnoff.
  • Head West on Hueneme Rd.
  • Turn left on Casper Rd.
  • Turn left into the private area.
  • Please Park on the paved roda near the drainage ditch.

Cost

$8.00 per person to Car Pool Drivers.

Other Information

Bring Snacks and/or a lunch, Water and Comfortable shoes.
Binoculars a must, spotting scopes are useful.
