Santa Barbara Audubon's Mission is:
To help conserve and restore the earth's natural ecosystems

people with birds and nature through education, science-based projects and advocacy.
We can only acheive the goals of our mission through generous donations and grants from local business

AVIARY DRAINAGE PROBLEMS
by Dolores Pollock and John O’Brien
Our new aviary is not draining the daily cleaning wash-down water properly,
and the problem has been traced to compacted soil. You may recall that when the
foundation was being dug, an old well was discovered right under the aviary location.
That issue was partially addressed by compacting the soil under the aviary.
Without knowing it, that led to difficulty allowing the wash-down water to drain
through the gravel in each aviary room.
The birds have returned to Gabriele’s until the problem can be resolved.
Volunteers drive the birds to the aviary three days a week to share them with their eager public.
Two birds are at the Museum of Natural History between 2:00 and 4:00 on Thurs., Sat., and Sun.
until they can all move back to the aviary.
Contractors have looked at the problem, and it is being addressed.
The cost will be divided between the Museum of Natural History and Santa Barbara Audubon.
We need to raise $6,000 to cover our part of the cost of the new concrete floors, which will slope
into a drainage system. If you can assist, great!

ENDOWMENT FUND
Please apply my donation to the SBAS Endowment fund. I understand my contribution will remain in
perpetuity and will generate dividends to be used to support the mission of the Santa Barbara Audubon Society.
I also understand that a one time contribution of $1000 or more will additionally grant me membership to the
Tecolote Circle as described HERE.

EYES IN THE SKY Program
Please apply my donation to support the Eyes In The Sky (EITS) program. I realize how important it is to
educate and connect our children with the great outdoors and its wild creatures. I think it is great how
SBAS and the Museum of Natural History have worked together to further this program, and I want to help!

White-tailed Kite Project
Please apply my donation to help fund a co-ordinator of the White-tailed Kite Monitoring Project. I understand
the White-tailed Kite is one of California's 13 fully protected species and I want to help their plight, and
hopefully protect their habitat.
